Trevor Williams, a well reknowned fire engineer in SA, unpacked the concerns of fire engineers when designing fire protection systems. In light of global warming and the corresponding negative impact on water availabilty, Trevor highlighted key focus areas from an engineers perspective. Download the presentation here.

John Cato, Executive Head of Policy Development at the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA), explained the registration process for all Fire Protection System Practitioners (FPSP). This process applies to those in the field of sprinklers, gas suppression and detection. This topic was particularly interesting to insurers since it means that the Engineering Council will now start regulating the field. Registrations will open in June for select categories.

Mr. Lenny Naidoo, Chief Fire Officer, of Engen Petroleum Company was gracious enough to present to the enthusiastic crowd at FPASA's annual InFIReS Seminar 2018 on the merits of using sea water for fire fighting. Engen has for many years perfected its state of the art sea water reticulation system dedicated to fire fighting and shared a high level overview of what such a system would entail.

SAIA water crisis

The SAIA water crisis forum has distributed their draft communication proposal relating to the water crisis /drought in SA. These documents are not Cape Town specific, rather they are applicable to all areas were water scarcity and drought are an issue.
